Karl Kristian Jensen, the founder of New Nordic, travelled internationally for a Danish healthcare company in the 1980s. During those travels, he met people from different cultures. Herbal medicines and food supplements enhanced their lives. This experience made him want to devote his life to developing effective and innovative herbal-based food supplements that add vitality and years to people’s lives.
”I saw how people of different cultures improved their daily quality of life by adding herbs and fruits to their diet. The happiness I saw from visiting people in the Far East triggered my passion for herbal products. I wanted to create products so effective that they would contribute and change people’s lives and contribute to the health of humankind”, says Karl Kristian.
The birth of New Nordic and Scandinavian Wellbeing
Determined to follow his passion, he founded New Nordic in October 1990. New Nordic opened its first offices in Copenhagen’s “Latin quarters.” The operations started in a typical Danish townhouse. In 1991, New Nordic launched its first products in the Matas drugstore chain.
From 1992 onwards, New Nordic has created innovative and effective food supplements, starting with Frutin®. At the time, Frutin was registered as a natural medicine against heartburn. Within a few years, Frutin was on the shelves of pharmacies and health stores in the Nordic Countries, Australia, Canada, and the USA. Other herbal supplements like Bio Drain™ and Dida followed suit.
Global Expansion and Challenges
For the next 16 years, Karl Kristian and his partner Marinus travelled the world, sourcing vitality, bringing herbs, and selling finished herbal supplements, produced in Denmark and Sweden and created to support the health and wellness of our ever-increasing customer base.
New Nordic continued to grow and established subsidiaries around the world. In 2007, it was time to strengthen the financial position and continue the international expansion. The company was consolidated in Malmö and listed on the NASDAQ First North stock exchange in Stockholm, Sweden. After this, New Nordic offices opened in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Poland and Mexico.
The economic crisis of 2008 forced New Nordic to slow its international expansion and solve certain financial challenges. The expansion continued in 2012.
